The international goose

20 years of construction

In Mexico that seems perfectly acceptable. Today I had a meeting with the engineer we've hired to rebuild the upstairs apartment. He went on a mission of discovery for existing blueprints at city hall and to apply for a new building permit. He came back with the idiotic news that a previous expansion on the property, started in 2005, was never officially finished. Thus a new building permit could not be issued.

What the hell?

A minor hickup according to him, just a formality and a small time delay. But in what world is it OK to be in construction for 21 years and nobody noticing that. It took a while to wrap my brain around this stupidity.

Anyway, we're now waiting for the government to process the 'terminacion de obra' or finished work, as approved by the construction company. When the red-tape finally clears we can again try to get a building permit.

On a more happy note, we took delivery of 6 bedframes and a couple of mattresses 2 days ago. There is an ongoing heat-wave, so if we can finally find the energy to paint the walls in the 2nd appartment, the first two units are pretty much done. This then means we can move in and cancel the expensive rent on the house I rent now.

Supposedly DHL delivered a diamond drill too, today. So I can drill 35mm holes soon and install the load center for the house electrics. Yep, things are crawling forward... But also backwards.
