I'm still in Puebla, still busy with being sick from Crypto-crappo-annoying. As I wrote about in this article. Things got a lot more manageable though. Much less toilet runs and vomiting. So much so that I'm thinking about moving on to the next town, Tequisquiapan in Querétaro.
No, I can't pronounce that either... Don't worry about it. It's a nice looking touristy town apparently exactly in the middle of Mexico, geographically.
Anyway, while preparing a few things for the upcoming ride, I discovered that the start button on my motorcycle is broken. It failed on me a few times before, like press the button and nothing happens. Usually after it rained. So while annoying, I didn't think much of it. Plus, some WD40 always seemed to fix it. But not this time.
I managed to start the bike after some button mashing and went to the BMW dealer in Puebla. Of-course in their workshop it worked every time. But they kept the bike for investigation and found out that the start button doesn't always make contact anymore. It's a sealed part, meaning it can't rust or get dirty, and still it's broken... Nobody seemed surprised. Nobody thought much of it and everyone agreed that, "Yes that commonly happens, and the whole thing needs to be replaced."
Common? What? Make better stuff BMW... Damn!
And how long to do the repair? I'm planning on leaving in 5 days... Well, 2 days if the part is in stock. Oh ok... Lucky me. Except, there is no stock. The parts guy at the dealership needed to check if maybe there is one in a central warehouse in Mexico City. But they were closed already because of the timezone difference.
A nerve wracking day later I got the good news, I'm getting the last one available in Mexico. Woohoo!
A quick $6450-ish Mexican pesos (€295EUR/$350USD) later and the part would be shipped out to Puebla. Which would take up-to 7 days. But... I want to leave in a couple of days. In my mind I was already extending my stay at the hotel yet again. But luckily 3 days later somehow my motorcycle was ready to be picked up at the end of the day.
Peace of mind, and rather quick service too in the end. Yeah!
