Product support is fun and rewarding

A bit of hyperbole, but vaguely rooted in reality.

Sometimes I write an entire email detailing how stupid certain people are. These are responses to a question they have, maybe they expect something from me or my products. Sometimes it's even a rude demand for something they want.

I know rude words too, so I write many of them in my response. When I'm done venting, my eyes fixate on the send button for a good few seconds and I stare fiercely at the screen.

I wish I could send the message and get a response along the lines of; "Oh right, I see that I'm a fucking dumbass... I'll be smarter next time! Thanks for enlightening me."

And the world would be a better place!

But no, I'd loose the (potential) customer. Or worse yet, they engage in an argument I should win but can't, because they're so incompetent and stubborn.

Unfortunately I have to behave. Mostly because my frustration will likely be lost on them. They just want to hear that they're right and expect me to accommodate their stupidity.

Instead I remind myself that they all pay for my rent, groceries and the clothes I wear. I grimace at my computer and rewrite my response to be a properly worded one. Something professional and smart. I'll explain in detail how they should use my software, interpret certain buttons/pages or why their thoughts/ideas/expectations are dumb.

Thanks everyone for being my customer! Yes, even you! Especially you!
It truly is appreciated, and my life wouldn't be what it is today without your cleverness to buy my stuff!
