While the local government keeps on wasting our time with the building permits and land use permits and whatever other bullshit they come up with, we've had the genius idea to, among other things, replace all windows on the ground floor as well. This is of-course inspired by the recent rain-storms.
Even if the windows aren't crooked, the window frames are so poorly made/installed that it's not at all water proof. So we threw all the individual price indications out the window for now. Yes, without opening said windows, and contracted the same construction company we're working with for the upstairs appartment to redo the actual house as well. New bathroom, new windows, building a few walls and supports for stuff.
This adds another $100k MXN to the total costs, but it will future proof the hous a little and create a more modern and stylish look and finish for the house. Everything will look more uniform with the upstairs renovations as well.
And so, for the last few days we got our own Juan, and he's doing things with cinderblocks and mortar to build a small divider wall in the living room, he built a raised platform for the water heater. And soon he'll make one of the windows smaller. A lot of blocks and concrete for now.
Then, I think, one by one we'll replace pretty much all ground floor windows and make that nicer and better too. Waterproof at least!
We tore down the bathroom already, to find the drains and remove all tiling. Turns out the roof on it is made of thin styrofoam blocks covered in cement. So we'll get a new roof on that, which will be the floor for my upstairs bathroom. And once that's done we can re-tile and finish the downstairs bathroom. Make it usable again.
And maybe! Maybe, when all that is done, the city will finally approve the construction permit.
